about

Rich Logan's Kirtan(Devotional Chanting) band, AKOUSTIKIRTAN has a debut CD coming out Nationally in January. Come join us for an Evening of high energy devotional music that embraces folk, rock, soul, jazz and world beat at The Old Town School of Folk Music on Jan 8th. A blending of the Spiritual and Secular, Akoustikirtan promises to uplift and awaken. The album features many of Chicago's top musicians. Graham Nelson's harmonica playing is sublime and masterful. Bob Garret's drumming spans from the subtle, to driving rhythmic epiphanies. Michael Taylor brings his expertise and spirit on the Djembe. Ryan Shultz and Doug Rosenberg, two of the most respected jazz musicians in Chicagoland bring their skills on Bass Trumpet and Saxophone respectively. The instrumentation is diverse and eclectic from Harp to Indian Flute, Drum Kit to Talking Drum, Piano to Dilruba. All the instrumentation is Acoustic led by Rich Logan’s eclectic guitar playing and impassioned vocalizations. The music is mostly original paying tribute to the ancient aspect of Kirtan, but with a modern take, interspersing secular music throughout and a couple of familiar covers. Listen for interpretations of George Harrison's "Here Come the Sun" and Eden Ahbez's "Nature Boy" as they seamlessly blend into the chants. The Album also features the vocals of Riley Koran, Jaylen Green, blending their voices in unique harmonies that can be only described as angelic soul. Also bringing their adept skills to Akoustikirtan are Tatiana Sanchez, Paula Battaglio, Ed Sullivan, Greg Neergard, Jim Hines, Jennifer Alexander, Amy Beth Treciokas, Abhaijot Kaur, Michelle Ferguson, Bob Garret, Alex Duvel and Mamadou Sarr. Come join us in January to celebrate the culmination of this 10 year project with some of the key members.
